(2016-2020) PELD - Pesquisa Ecológica de Longa Duração
PELD is the Brazilian acronym for LTER (Long-term Ecological Research). POPA (PELD do Oeste do Pará) is one of the newest PELD sites in Brazil, located in Alter do Chão and Belterra, PA.
We study a gradient of savannas, forest fragments and pristine forests to understand the long-term effects of climatic changes on biodiversity and ecological processes. Plots have been monitored in Alter do Chão for the last twenty years. Our team is resampling vegetation across 30 savanna plots to understand how a gradient of abiotic factors (i.e. fire and soil structure) determine changes in floristic composition and vegetation cover.
(2018-2023) Camera trap Monitoring Program of Medium to Large-Sized Vertebrates of the Tapajós National Forest
We have been monitored medium to large birds and mammals in the Tapajos National Forest, PA, Brazil, using camera traps. The project is financed by the Brazilian agency CAPES (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior), through the PROCAD-Amazônia partnership. Besides financing the research project, several students and researchers have been empowered by this fellowship.
